Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maurice in 2003; four brothers: Henry, Lewis, Carl, and William “Pete;” and four sisters: Minnie (d. 1912), Emma Schutt, Ella Schallau, and Clara “Dutch” Smith.

Anna was born December 2, 1916 on the family farm near Elberon to Charles and Anna (Jabens) Burmeister.  She graduated from Dysart High School and later worked for Collins Radio during the war effort.  She married Maurice Hogan on June 24, 1944 in Marengo.  Anna was a homemaker most of her life, but ventured into the dress shop business with dear friend and business partner, Beth Milling, for a few years in Marengo, before retiring with Maurice to Arizona for nineteen years.  They later moved back to Iowa, to Keystone, to be near family, treasuring the friendships and all of small-town Iowa’s best.  They truly loved Keystone.

Anna was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Keystone.  Maurice and Anna were members of Tara Hills Country Club, when swinging a golf club was still an exercise option.  Anna also played cards at the Keystone Turner Hall most Tuesdays and Thursdays until recently.  She treasured her card club friends.  Her family thanks them so much for being there for her.

Special thanks to Hospice of Cedar Rapids Mercy and to the Keystone Care Center.  The professionalism and support by both were outstanding.

Memorial donations in Anna’s name may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, Iowa or Keystone Care Center in Keystone, Iowa.
