Memorial
Larry Martin Cirkl, age 77, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Urbana, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Visitation: 5:00 until 7:00 PM Monday evening at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Larry was born July 11, 1937 in rural Fairfax, Iowa, the son of Charles Joseph and Irene Marie (Shenberger) Cirkl. He served honorably in the United States Army. As a young man, he worked at Harper’s Body Shop and Bob Zimmerman Ford Body Shop. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Brody in 1958.
Larry was a Lieutenant with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for over thirty years. He enjoyed restoring pedal cars, and old gas pumps. He also enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by three children: Jeff Cirkl of Columbia, Missouri; Martin Cirkl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Cindy (Steve) Wolfe of Urbana, Iowa; four grandchildren: Carl Cirkl of Miami, Florida; Melissa Cirkl of Amana, Iowa; Erin Cirkl of Columbia, Missouri; and Antonia Wolfe of Urbana, Iowa; one great-grandson, Landon Cirkl of Columbia, Missouri; brother Andrew (Dixie) Cirkl of Robins, Iowa; and sister Flora (Eugene) McIntosh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse Patricia; and daughter Debra Kay Cirkl in 1959.
A memorial fund has been established in Larry’s name.
