While at first I was attracted to the wonderful objects in the van Deest antique fair booths, I was always tempted to linger by Paula's spirited and thoughtful conversations with me. I very much admired her upbeat positive attitude . Tom I am so sorry for your loss.

Your tribute to her was so touching and heartfelt! She certainly will be missed by all of us! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this incredibly sad time. Mary Kay Miller

Tom and Sarah, I was so sorry to learn of Paula's passing. She and I first met when we moved to Cedar Rapids in 1977 and she was working at Kenwood House. She gave us fantastic assistance as redecorated our home. After she left Kenwood House, Whippoorwill became one of my favorite places to shop. The merchandise was great--I still have many items I bought there--but it was even more fun to see Paula! Over the years, when I ran into her at antique shows and other places, it was always a treat to visit with her. She was a very special person who will be missed by many, and I know your hearts are broken. My deepest sympathy to you and to the rest of her family.

Tom and Sarah, Just a brief note to offer my sympathy. The Gazette article was so well done, and the two photos of Paula are so cute - but then, she was a good looking girl, had great taste in how she presented herself, and in decorating - both inside and outside her home. I also recall that she could throw together a last minute meal for unexpected guests, and when served, it was as if she'd been preparing all day. I'll never forget how thrilled and excited she was when she became pregnant, and after her darling girl arrived, she was so happy, and assumed her role of motherhood with love and the strong desire to be the best mother she could possibly be. Another goal accomplished, Paula. I remember the fun I've had through the years with friends like you and Paula, and - even when by myself - laugh out loud with joy. (I remember when Paula had a 40th birthday party for you, Tom, and it was soooo much fun!) I'm sure both of you realize that your lives are now changed forever - but after awhile, you will adjust. Both of you may find yourselves talking to Paula, and that's good. Keep her informed and ask for advice. She'll enjoy being kept in the loop. Dianne K.

Dear Tom, Sarah and Family - We are sincerely sorry to learn of Paula's passing. Her ever-present smile was a gift that many of us will remember. We will all miss her. We extend our sincere condolences - please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Steve & Mary Ann Koenig

Tom & Sarah, I am so sorry. I have such good memories of Paula. Paula, Dick Cooley and I used to take step aerobics together at the YMCA years ago. We had many good laughs while exercising. My Christmas tree is still decorated with many of the ornaments I purchased from Paula/Whippoorwill. Karla, one of my Jefferson DECA students, worked at the Whippoorwill while she was in high school. I loved talking with Paula about the positive influence she had on my marketing students. She will be missed.
