Donna Louise Smith Farrington, age 94, of Anamosa, Iowa, died Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Anamosa Care Center.

Donna was born on a farm near Strawberry Point, Iowa to Ellsworth T. and Ethel Easton Nelson Carnicle.  She had four brothers, one sister, and many children who were given a home by the Carnicles.

On December 26, 1936, she married William Dexter Smith in Rural Clayton County.  They both were so in love, as they made their way through the Great Depression.  Together they raised a daughter and four sons, and gave love and a home to two teenage girls who were in need.

Donna and Dexter knew how to get by on nothing but love, hard work, self-reliance, honesty, humor, and respect for others and each other.  These qualities they demanded that their children understood and learn to possess.  Together, Donna and Dexter were the seed for five generations.

Donna and Dexter moved to Marion, Iowa in the early 1940s.  Dexter passed away in 1983.  Donna later met and married Howard G. Farrington in 1992.  They shared their golden years having fun dancing and enjoying life until Howard passed.

Donna moved to Anamosa, Iowa to be closer to family help.  She was quick-witted and very funny until it was time to go home.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
