Gerald “Jerry” Edward Turner, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed on Wednesday August 13, 2015 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.

Surviving is his wife, Melody A. Turner, his children; Dominique L. McDonough of Westland, Michigan, Etienne E. Turner of Capitan, New Mexico, Tara (Darrell) Halverson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Brandy Turner of Cedar  Rapids, Iowa, his siblings; Wayne (Connie) Turner, Lois Turner both of Manchester, Iowa, Marilyn (Lloyd) Foster of Hillsdale, Illinois and Robert Turner and friend Margo of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, his grandchildren; Rachel McDonough, Morgan McDonough, Jordan Turner-Capps, Skyler Turner-Capps, Madison Halverson, Kody Halverson and Kimberly Halverson. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

Jerry was born September 6, 1941 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Walter and Bernice (Peters) Turner. Jerry and Melody united families together on November 8, 1980 in Cedar Rapids.  Jerry worked for Straub Painting in Cedar Rapids and later painted and restored homes for sale in the Cedar Rapids area. Jerry was a member of the American Legion and Painters Union #405. He loved camping,  Kayaking, fishing and NASCAR. Jerry was good at woodworking, often making small crafts for his family and friends. Jerry also loved doing yard work, decorating at holiday time and spending time with his family and cherished time with his grandchildren. He fought a long hard battle to the end and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jerry proudly served in the Air Force during Vietnam.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Chirantan Ghosh and the staff of Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
