Condolences from the Delzell's. Sadly, the first and only time I met Carl Jr. was at Aunt Corky's funeral. I teased her for years that he was simply part of her imagination since she talked of him often, but I had never actually seen him. I only knew him second-hand, but she clearly always enjoyed his company, "the twins", and cherished her time with him.

My deep condolences Torg and Eric!

Sally, I am so sorry... Carl's jokes and larger than life personality will be greatly missed. You both touched my life. Much love to you and yours. (((hugs)))

Torg and Erik, I am sorry to hear about your father's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up on 26th Street many of which include your father. His humor, the shouts across the street as I was coming in from a date, not to mention the "porch sitting" group of Carl, Harold, Richard and Ivan which is legendary. So lucky to have been around for those great men. Thinking of you and enjoying remembering.

To the Sage. Of 26th st. Memories of Carl singing along to the radio on rides to McKinley . My sympathy to Bing & Moose.

Dear Hendrickson family. Thank you for sharing Carl with us. Jeff and I worked with Carl soon before he retired from the law firm. I was his secretary and every morning he would come in and say "I got a story for you" . He would always tell us tales of his trips to the Black Forrest. His kind and caring manner was a breath of fresh air. He spoke so highly of "the boys" and his Sally. Even though he didn't come out and say it, one could tell that he most enjoyed his evenings with you. I was so glad he had a kindred spirit to share his life with. The hardest part of leaving the law firm was leaving Carl. He was a good hearted character. I wonder which story he had ready for St. Peter. I bet it was a doozy. Our prayers are with you in celebrating his life. Trina and Jeff Yates

I worked at the law firm when I was in high school. I had the misfortune of getting into a car accident while on my way to work, and Carl was quick to give me my nickname that has stayed with me all these years -- Chitwood. Carl was one of a kind and such a fun guy to be around. Sally, I still remember going to a party -- perhaps an Iowa National function -- and there you were with Carl! It was great seeing him again after all these years. I did not realize until reading the obit in the paper that Jan and Ryan are his grandkids, and Keri his daughter-in-law. Keri, we will have a lot of catching up to do when I see you sometime! Lots of fond memories to share. He made me laugh on a daily basis, which is truly a gift. Wish I could have seen him one last time. Linda Skvor

I’ll always remember Hendy and his jokes. He often began his jokes (with his special nickname for me) . . . “Hey Day, did you hear . . . ? ” I found that saying ‘yes’ was merely a prompt. I’ve relayed many Hendy jokes through the years and, like Hendy, retold only a few once. Even after hearing one of his groaners, I felt privileged to be his audience. Thanks Hendy. Condolences to Sally, Erik and Torg. Jon Day

Dearest Sally, So sorry to hear about Carl. Oh, all the fun times we all had with you two at Zubers.Table 3 was yours for sure.Have missed you for a long time. My thoughts and prayers are with you Sally. He must have been a very special man to have such a kind and genuine spouse. Hugs to you.

Torg & Erik, Sorry to read the news of your fathers passing. I spoken with him many times over the years at "The Vernon Inn". Steve Hidder

Sally, So very sorry to hear about Carl. I got to know him at Cottage Grove esp. When I was on my way home and the three 'boys' we're outside having their smoke which was always David's and Mr. Perdue' idea! I throughly enjoyed his quick wit and laugh. Knowing Carl made me a better person. My prayers are with you and the family. Nance Wagner

Torg & Erik - I am so sorry to hear about your father. Sending you both a hug. - Leslie

Sally, so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Carl in the morning paper. You and Carl were in our thoughts at Yoga today.

I am sorry for your lost Sally may see you at exerisce

We will miss Carl. Always could be counted on for a timely joke, but a kind and generous nature was underneath those clever lines. Coining a unique nickname for his friend was a specialty of Carl's. Our love to Sally and the family. Rachel and Vincent Mills

Erik , Keri, & Family - - - Jan and I are sorry for your loss. Please extend our sympathies to your brother and any others you deem appropriate. Rich & Jan Fink

Erik, Torg, and Family - Please accept my condolences on your dad's passing. I only knew of him through the Days who were great friends of his. I occasionally would hear one of his jokes through them. I know he was a force majeure in the Cedar Rapids legal community and was highly respected, as such. May you find comfort in fond memories in the days and weeks to come. God Bless you all. Andy Weaver, Washington High School, Class of 1973.

Hey hey Carl! Always remember your standing reservation at The Vernon Inn on Saturdays at 7:47 on the dot. I always said it sounded like an airline flight. Oh yes, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays it was 6:00. You always pretended you were mean and tough, but we all knew you had a heart of gold. So, have a share zees with Sallly and god rest your soul. Hey Hey Paula.

Dear Sally, Torg & Erik, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Carl was a one of a kind man. No two ways about it. I can't help but think there's a wonderful reunion going on, with Carl and Dad having quite the time catching up. Carl leading the way with his one liners and stories (maybe a cocktail in both of their hands). A class act throughout his life. His friendship and love is a memory we'll carry forever. God bless you all. All our Love. Dave & Kris, Erik, Krista, Kathleen, and Connor
