Mearl C. Fowlie, 102, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona formerly of the Stanwood-Clarence area died Sunday September 28, 2014 in Arizona. There will be no local services. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mearl was born on a farm in the Stanwood-Clarence vicinity on October 29, 1911, to J. Wilber Fowlie and Lida Clay Fowlie. He attended the Stanwood and Clarence schools and graduated from Olin High School in 1930, after starting there in his freshman year. After graduation he worked for various farmers, and in 1934 he decided to try city life. He chose Cedar Rapids as his home town and had lived there, until he moved to Lake Havasu, Arizona.

He was an active member of Central Park Presbyterian Church since 1956, having served as Deacon and Elder off and on for many years.

Mearl worked for Cedar Rapids Engineering Company now known as Kwik-Way of Marion for 34 years and retired from there in 1974. After his retirement he spent some very pleasant years as an associate of Armstrong’s Dept. Store, working in the display department.

His children are, Sharon Etchells of Colorado Springs (deceased), Colorado and a son Steven of Lake Havasu, Arizona. He was preceded in death by an adopted son, Jerald L. Fowlie.
