Jimmie Nicholas Coutentos, 83, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a rosary service starting at 3:30 PM.  Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky.  Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors following the mass. 

Jimmie Nicholas Coutentos was born on September 2, 1931 in Cedar Rapids the son of Nicholas and Doris (Prather) Coutentos.  Jimmie attended the University of Iowa for two years, majoring in Commercial Arts.  His education was interrupted by the Korean War.  He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Jimmie was a big believer in higher education.  During the service he gave GED tests to service men.  After the service he attended Cedar Rapids Barbers College and Kirkwood Community College. 

Jimmie married Patricia Hughes on August 3, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa.  Jimmie was a Meat Processor Inspector for the Department of Agriculture.  He enjoyed reading, coin and rock collecting, gem faceting, furniture refurnishing and driving his classic 1947 Cadillac.  Jimmie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, VFW and NARFE.  He will be greatly missed.   

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patricia; children, Gary (Joy) Coutentos of Cedar Rapids; Michael (Carol) Coutentos of Bell Plaine; and Lynda (Ramon) Ziadeh of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a cousin Irene (Mike) Frow of Reno, NV.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Nicholas Coutentos.
