Arland “Josh” S. Bowdish, 95, of rural Central City, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service celebrating Josh’s life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Lyle Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.

Survivors include his children, Norma (Dave) Nietert of Central City, Helen (Marv) Lentner of Blacksburg, VA; Sharon (Bill) Gormley of Cabin John, MD, Karon Fromm of Decorah and Carol (Bill) Bulman of Colona, IL; 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; special friend, Marcella Bruns of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Mary) Caroline in 1984, daughter Shirley Schaul, granddaughter Stephanie Gormley, two sisters, Roxie and Dora and a brother, Marvin.

Arland Samuel Bowdish was born April 23, 1919, at Central City, Iowa the son of Clifford and Edna (DeWald) Bowdish. On February 28, 1938, he married Mary Caroline Andersen at Central City, IA. Josh farmed for many years in the Central City area. He had also worked at St. Luke’s Hospital from 1972-1982, and wintered in Texas for over 20 years with Marcella. They enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Springville United Methodist Church.
