Estol E. “Ed” Kunce, age 93, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Hallmark Care Center after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at the chapel on Wednesday before the service.  Interment will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

He is survived by his children: Sharon (John) Sedlacek of Cedar Rapids; Deanna (Lyle) Matheny of Marion; and Gary (Debbie) Kunce of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, six brothers, two sisters and a grandson Kenneth Matheny.

Ed was born July 25, 1921 in Fairfield, Iowa to Edward and Anna Frakes Kunce.  He was united in marriage to Ruth Spencer on November 10, 1940 in Muscatine.  Ruth passed away in 1998. Ed enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 where he served honorably as a PFC in World War II.

Ed worked at Bob Zimmerman Ford for 22 years retiring in 1984. He then worked part time for several years in building and lawn maintenance with Keane Medical Services. 
He loved fishing, camping and helping others. He will be missed by his family and friends at Community Bible Church where he had been a member.
