Robert L. Behrens, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.
Funeral service: 11:00 am Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial with military rites will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; Children, Christopher (Elaine) Behrens, Lynette (Rickie) Gaffey-Sexton and Michael Behrens, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Lacey (Patrick) Gorman, Austin Behrens, Cody Behrens, Ali Arnold, Amanda Gaffey, Mitchell Gaffey, Molly Gaffey, Matthew Behrens and Natasha Behrens-Sion; great grandchildren, Asher and Adleigh Gorman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack.
Robert Louie Behrens was born January 7, 1931 in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Harry & Lucille (Pettit) Behrens. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. On August 21, 1953, he married Margaret Meyers in Cedar Rapids. Robert worked at F.M.C. for 28 years and then for the Cedar Rapids Community School district as a bus driver for 23 years until retiring in 2010. He enjoyed fishing and was extremely proud of all his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
