John “J.B.” Feld, age 82, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, August 29, 2014.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  

Survivors include sons Stephen (Julia) Feld of Marshalltown and Daniel (Dianne) Feld of Cedar Rapids; daughters Angela (Blake) Wilkinson of Marion and Terese (John) Fisher of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Matthew, and Shelby of Marshalltown; Brian and Laura of Cedar Rapids; and Jacob and Patrick of Marion; brother Dr. James (Betty) Feld of West Des Moines; and sister Janet Feld of Sun City, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kay in 2010; infant son Patrick; son John L. Feld; daughter Ann Marie Feld; his parents; sister, Mary Agnes; and brother, Michael Feld.

J.B. was born February 5, 1932 in Oelwein, Iowa the son of Dr. John W. and Esther (Crahan) Feld.  He graduated from Sacred Heart School in Oelwein, and attended Loras College in Dubuque.  J.B. served honorably as an Army Corporal in Germany during the Korean War.  He married Mary Kay Fridgen on August 31, 1957 in Rochester, Minnesota.  He raised his family in Carroll, Manchester, and Cedar Rapids, where he had many good friends.

J.B. was employed by Iowa Electric Light and Power Company for 36 years, retiring in 1992.  He and Mary Kay moved to Santa Barbara, California, where they enjoyed their retirement for twelve years, and moved back to Cedar Rapids in 2008.

In his retirement, J.B. developed his skill for political cartooning, and had many of his drawings published in USA Today.  He will be remembered by his children as a strong, positive influence who supported them and was always ready with concrete advice.  His wonderful sense of humor will always be treasured.
