I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Erni's passing. Aunt Gerdi credited Erna, your mom, with saving her life after the war when both women were held in Czechoslovakia. My dad and your mom were very close, and I know that your mom helped our family in many ways. I also will never forget Aunt Erni's deviled eggs! I always looked forward to them at every family gathering. I did e-mail the Papenhoffs (Wolfgang, Bruno, and Sigrid) to let them know about your mother's death. (I don't have an e-mail address for Winifred.) Erni and the rest of the Hartelt family lived a life of incredible hardships. I'm glad that in death she has been reunited with your father, a man she loved so much. Aunt Erni once told me how much she loved the German bakery in St. Louis. I think her early marriage must have been a very happy time for her. I'm only sorry that you and she lost your dad Joe so young. My thoughts and prayers are with Joe, Barbara, and all who loved Erni. Your cousin Christine

Please accept my most sincere sympathy--Erna and I attended classes together at Kirkwood . We both worked as Environmental Sanitarians and would many time confer on problems we were having in the field. I remember she always had a smile and a cheerful, positive attitude. Again, my sympathy to the close of what must have been a very interesting and unique life.

Barb, so sorry to read of your mother's passing but she did live a very long life.
