Alice Rose Burgess, 74 of Monticello formerly of Marion died Thursday April 3, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a brief illness. Services at 9:00 AM on Monday, April 7 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.

Alice was born July 2, 1939 in Oklahoma, the daughter of Curran and Hazel Williams.  She graduated from Springville High School, Springville, Iowa May 27, 1958.   Alice married Lorenzo Burgess on August 17, 1961 in Anamosa, Iowa and was employed by Rockwell Collins until she became a homemaker when her family began to grow.

Survivors include her daughter Rosalie (Brad) Hendricks of Washington, son Michael Burgess of Cedar Rapids, daughter Linda French of Belle Plaine, son Larry Burgess of Hiawatha, son Gary (Johnnie) Burgess of Oklahoma and son Phillip Burgess of Marion.

Seven grandchildren; Melisha H., Kyle, Jeremy, Anthony, Adam, Christine and Melisha B.  One great grandchild; Aubrey.
Sister Betty (George) of Florida, Evelyn (Tim) Ferguson of Texas, Nancy (Orval) Cooper of Waterloo and Newton Williams of California along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lorenzo and her brother Karl Williams.

Alice enjoyed her retirement allowing her to spend time with her family, the opportunity to travel, make new friends and her routine trips to the Casinos.
