Gertrude Stoner Veldhouse, 95, of Northbrook Manor died there on Friday, April 29, 2005 after a long illness. Services at 1 PM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the Chapel after Noon on Wed.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Fiocchi of Glenview, ILL. She is also survived by a sister in law, Ailia Stoner of Cedar Rapids and four grandchildren, John Fiocchi and his wife, Rosalinda and their children, Luke and Peter of Mettawa. Ill. James Fiocchi and his wife, Maria and their children, Thomas and India of Highland Park, ILL., Jeffrey Fiocchi and his wife, Paula and their children, Olivia and Sofia of Aurora, Colorado and a granddaughter, Jennifer Fiocchi and her husband, Khalid Karkache and their children, Samuel Wray and Joseph Gabriel of Wilmington, Mass.
Gertrude was born on Jan. 30. 1910 in North Liberty, the daughter of Lester and Nellie Wray Stoner. She married Dr. Richard H. Veldhouse on June 21, 1932 in North Liberty. He died in 1988. She worked for Avis Car Rental at the Cedar Rapids Airport for several years. Gertrude graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA degree in English. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Cedar Rapids College Club, a long time member of Elmcrest Country Club. She loved to play golf and bridge with her many friends .
