Memorial

Max A. Irish, 69, of 1394 Elmhurst Dr. NE, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in St. Luke's hospital following a long illness. Services with military and Masonic rites at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Tom Pietz of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Ann, two daughters Lisa Brekke and husband Randy of Hiawatha, and Jeannine Alberts and husband Joseph of Atkins, his brothers and sisters, Joel Irish and wife Elaine of Davenport, Helen Schirm and husband Dean of Florida, Berniece Fox and husband Leonard of Cedar Rapids, George Irish and wife Sheryl of Marion, and a special brother Dennis Irish who did everything Max needed, and Dennis's wife Diane, five grandchildren Robyne Hurych, Bryce Brekke, Cody Alberts, Shane Brekke, and Kim Gescheidler, a niece Michelle Fox who took special care of Max. He also loved his two Maltese, Caesar and Tasha. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Pingel, his step-father Howard Bergen, and his loving mother in law Gladys Lee.
Max was born August 21, 1935 in Shellsburg, Iowa to Joel and Juanita Salem Irish. He served in the US Navy during the Korean war. He married Ruth Ann Stull on June 14, 1957 in Vinton, Iowa. He was a Quality Control Engineer for Rockwell-Collins for 35 years retiring in 1991. He was a member of Crescent Masonic Lodge No 25, El Kahir Shrine, and Hanford American Legion Post No 5. Max was a former president of the El Kahir Shrine Drum and Bugle Corp. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and took special pride in his grandchildren..
A memorial fund has been established.
