Virginia 'Jenna' Ortiz, 19 of 2901 J Street SW died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 as the result of an auto accident. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Rev. Jose Comparan will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday where there will be a vigil service at 5 PM. Friends may also call at the Church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include her mother, Carole Gerard Ortiz of Cedar Rapids, her father, Cruz Ortiz and his wife, Gabriella of Stratford, TX., a brother, Ben, at home, a half brother, Jesus and two half sisters, Mireya and Brenda. She is also survived by grandparents, Dorris and Donald Gerard of Cedar Rapids, and Josephina and Enrique Ortiz of Chihuahua, Mexico, her God Mother, Stacey Nava of Amarillo, TX. and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jenna was born Nov. 12, 1985 in Dumas, TX. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 2004 where she was a salutatorian, member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, class officer, cheerleader, West Side Delegation, Concert Choir and the 2003 Jefferson High School Homecoming Court. She attended Iowa State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jenna's name.
