Leona M. Vavricek, 85, of Dubuque, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 14, 2004, in the Stone Hill Care Center in Dubuque following a long illness. Funeral Mass at 9 AM Saturday in All Saints Catholic Church. Father David Ambrosy will officiate. Burial in Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 5 PM on Friday, and at the church after 8:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include two step-sons Dennis Vavricek and wife Linda of Peosta, Iowa, and Elmer Vavricek and wife Molly of Gardner, Kansas, a daughter Joellyn Washburn of New Jersey, two sisters Agnes Litz of Hartington, Nebraska, and Elsie Habere of Red Oak, Iowa, two brothers Len Feldhacker of LeMars, Iowa, and Vern Feldhacker of Scottsdale, Arizona, and four grandchildren, Tim Vavricek and wife Jill of Des Moines, Jennifer Gunderson and husband Aren of Fairbanks, Alaska, Andrew and Cara Vavricek both of Gardner, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Clarence Feldhacker, her first husband Quenton Washburn whom she married in 1944 and died in 1966, and her second husband Elmer F. Vavricek whom she married September 16, 1972 in Cedar Rapids, and died December 17, 2002.
Leona was born September 24, 1919 in Nebraska to Peter and Rose Feldhacker.
Leona was an accountant for Suburban Lumber Company for 10 years retiring in 1981. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, and very active in synchronized swimming at Thomas Park in the 1960's. She enjoyed Boston Terriers and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
