Jemima Mina McCallister Owens, 82, of 3200 Soutter Ave. S.E., died Saturday, November 20, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. Services: 11 AM Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. George Bishop officiating. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the Chapel of Memories after 10:30 AM on Wednesday..
Surviving is a son, James Owens and wife Susan of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Sandra Dunlap and husband Doug of Washington, Iowa, three sisters, Rachel Dodds and Eileen Stewart of Coventry England, and Lily Lavery of Belfast, Northern Ireland, 7 grandchildren, Laurie Ambrosy Todd, Kelly Printy Jeff, Scott Owens Darlene, Bradley Dunlap Stephanie, Brian Dunlap Marci, Brent DunlapJill and Lisa Ringwald Mark, fifteen great grandchildren, and a sister in law, Lily Murphy of Bangor, Northern Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Owens, a daughter Irene Dove, two brothers, William Brown and George Brown, and a sister, Cassie Brown.
She was born on April 26, 1922 at Belfast, Northern Ireland to George and Rachel McCallister Brown and was married to James Owens Sr. on February 15, 1940 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
She and her husband were former owners of the Cashman Plumbing and Heating Company where she was their bookkeeper and accountant. Mina also had worked in food service for both the St. Matthew's and All Saints schools. She was a charter member of Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Women of Other Nations Club.
Mina came to the United States with her husband and three children in December of 1949 and made her home in Cedar Rapids. Her life centered around her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her close circle of friends. Her loving nature and generous spirit will be greatly missed by family and friends overseas and here.
Her family wishes to thank the nursing staff and doctors at 5th floor center at St. Luke's Hospital for the compassionate care given Mina.
