Geraldine "Geri" M. Yock: 80, of Cedar Rapids,lately of Pennington Square in Monticello, died Tuesday morning, July 6, at St. Luke's hospital following a brief illness. Please join us in celebrating Geri's glorious life Friday, July 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Lynn Thiede officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Geri is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence Yock of Monticello, a daughter, Jayne Billington and husband John of Santa Rosa, California, a son Thomas Yock and wife Jane of Hiawatha, Iowa, a sister Florence Baldwin of Monticello, a brother Clifford Dirks and wife Sandy of Wyoming, Iowa and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Geri was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Ann Jones on March 25, 2004, two brothers, LeRoy Dirks and Donald Dirks and a sister, Dorothy Hurst.
Geri was born November 2, 1923 in Olin, Iowa the daughter of Gerd and Augusta Husmann Dirks. She married Clarence R. Yock on October 2, 1943 in Glendale, California. Geri was proudly employed at Kirkwood Community College from 1968 to 1987 retiring as the bookstore manager. She also worked at Fannie Farmer's for many years. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was active in the "Kirkwood Oldies" and a member of the VFW Auxillary. Geri enjoyed games, music, sewing and gardening. She dearly loved and cared for her family and friends. Her spirit of love and caring made a tremendous impact on all those who knew her and loved her. Memorials may be made in Geri's memory to the American Diabetes Association; the Alzhemiers Association or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
