Mary E. Carnahan, 74, of Hiawatha, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died February 3, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Craig Peters of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 47 years, Carroll; her sons, Shawn Carnahan and his wife Wendy and Chris Carnahan; her grandchildren Erica and John Carnahan all of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Henry Day, Jr. and wife Judy also of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Ellen Carnahan was born December 16, 1937 in Cedar Rapids the beloved daughter of Alice (Brown) and Henry C. Day, Sr. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1956. On her 19th birthday, she met Carroll Carnahan and since that day they have been together. She was united in marriage to Carroll on June 27, 1964 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She and Carroll were members of a radio club and supported the police department. Mary worked for different telemarketing firms throughout her career. Her greatest job was as a mother and wife. She enjoyed gardening (especially roses), traveling, collecting angels and above all time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.
