Helen Michal, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died at Heritage Nursing and Rehab, Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Services will be held in Illinois at a later date. Interment: Fairview Memorial Park, Northlake, IL. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

Helen is survived by daughters, Nancy Wisotzke of Dekalb, IL and Waunita (Randy) Bernard of Joliet, IL; sister, Irene Vogel of Shellsburg; brother-in-law, Duane Weaver of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Chan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a son, Robert, four brothers and three sisters.

Helen was born January 7, 1927 in Iowa City to James and Mae Beltz. She married Robert Michal in Cedar Rapids on October 9, 1944. After Bob’s retirement they moved to Georgetown, FL where she resided for over 25 years. She moved to back to Cedar Rapids in 2006. Helen loved caring for her dog, Chan and taking care of her home. She especially enjoyed making out grocery lists for her niece, Shannon.
