Memorial
Paul D. Armstrong, 55, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Friends may join in a celebration of his life at Horseshoe Falls Lodge at Pinicon Ridge from 1 to 5 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2010. A Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Paul was born April 9, 1954 in Cedar Rapids, IA. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marines during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He married Cynthia Chamberlain in 1978 and became a carpenter by trade and a devoted stay at home dad and husband. Paul had a distinguished taste and enjoyment of movies and music, loved the outdoors and was an avid sports and Brett Favre fan. He was very dedicated to his family and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Nichole (Zachary) Martin of Cedar Rapids; Sean Armstrong of Lisbon; Troy and Rachel Armstrong both of Mt. Vernon; mother, Donna Smith; sister, Pam (Tom) Johnston of Solon; grandchildren, Anthony, Adrian, and Mariah and many nieces and nephews.
Paul is preceded in death by his stepfather, Chet Smith.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at Alliant Credit Union Cedar Rapids to dedicate a tree and bench in his memory.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Emergency Crews, St. Luke’s ICU Nurses and Physicians, and all of our friends.
