De Loye Emerson Thompson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dan Kolander. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military services. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Beula, children, DeAnn Schriner and Gary (Diane) Thompson, all of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Connie)Thompson of Westgate, and Doug (Patty)Thompson of Glenwood; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty Segriff; son, Thomas; and great grandson, Davis Eric Thompson.

De Loye was born January 8, 1924 in Norway to Carl and Alta Vig Thompson. He was an Army veteran of WWII, receiving the Purple Heart. De Loye married Beula Coombs in Iowa City on June 12, 1945. He was employed at National Oats for over 45 years, retiring as foreman. He loved the outdoors; especially fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
