Erwin Leroy Clinton Jr. (Bubba), of 230 South Cedar St. in Monticello formerly of Cedar Rapids died Friday Oct. 23, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital after a lingering illness. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Janet, a son Craig (Vickie) of Marion, four daughters, Tina (Randy) Maher of Cedar Rapids, Cecelia “Sherry” Hill of Anamosa, Angela (Rob) Basta of Florida and Cassandra (Rick) Covington of Monticello; a step-daughter, Shelly (Tim) Brown and step-son, Jamie Turpin all of Cedar Rapids; five brothers, Eddie (Audrey) of Texas, Allen (Iva) of Norway, Iowa, Bill(Pam), Bobby (Kay) and Jim (Janie) all of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Carol Sawyer of Marion, Barb (David) Hearron and Kathy (Richard) Ballew all of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sherry Werner, Rosalee Bryan and Elaine Meyers and his former wife, Mary B. Nugent Clinton.
Erwin was born on June 5, 1938 in Iowa City, the son of Erwin and Ruth Sadler Clinton Sr. Erwin was a career Navy man who served from 1955 until 1977. He retired as an E-8 and proudly served in Vietnam. After his retirement from the Navy he worked for the city of Cedar Rapids Parks Dept. in maintenance from 1977 until he retired in 1997.
Erwin was a member of American Legion Hanford Post No. 5 and VFW Post No. 788. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, fishing, playing cards and especially spending time with his friends and beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City in Erwin’s name. Military rites by VFW Post No. 788.
