Charles Roy Swope Sr., 89, died at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military services. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Paula) Swope Jr. of Oakland; daughter, Jane “Kathy” (John) Caes of New Liberty; grandchildren, Jennifer (Shawn) Danker of Guthrie Center, Steven Swope of Urbandale, Robert (McKaylenn Christen) Swope of Pequot Lakes, MN; Benjamin Caes of Madison, WI, and Jonathan Caes of New Liberty; and great grandchildren, Shelby, Sydney, Sophie, and Seth Danker. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velda; sister, Margaret Hough; and daughter, Joan “Kris” Swope.
Charles was born on February 22, 1920 in Cedar Rapids to Roy and Margaret Kuhn Swope. He married Velda Nadane May in Ames on March 4, 1944. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Charles worked as an electrician for the IBEW #405 and served as the secretary for many years. Charles was a great husband and father and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
