Jerry Martwig, 59, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home, Monday, October 12, 2009. There will be a visitation Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m.

Survivors include son, Brent (Sarah) Martwig and their sons, Carter and Izak, and mother, Ruth Martwig, of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Larry (Marva) Martwig and children Jason and Sara of Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.

Jerry was born May 21, 1950 in Oelwein to Arthur and Ruth Martwig. He married Susan Van Hamme on August 26, 1972. They were later divorced. He was employed by Harnischfeger for several years and later for J & P Cycles. Jerry loved to learn and studied astronomy, biblical history, philosophy, medicine, and automotive repair. His 1941 Knucklehead gave him freedom. He loved to help people and assist them when needed and was appreciative of the assistance given to him.
