Michael E. (Mike) Brake, 62, of Cedar Rapids passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from cancer. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren, Cedar Rapids where a gathering in the Fellowship hall will follow the service. Rev. Jim Goodrich will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

He is survived by his mother Ruth of Marion, his wife Peggy and children Dina and Aron all of Cedar Rapids, mother-in-law Beth King of Cedar Rapids and his brother-in-law Tony King and family of Ohio, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, father-in-law Harvey King and brother-in-law Steven M. King.

Mike was born June 24, 1947 in Council Bluffs, IA, the son of Eldon D. and Ruth E. (White) Brake. He graduated in 1965 from Washington High School in Washington, IA. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1969 after graduating from Northeast Missouri State College. On August 9, 1975 he married Peggy L. King. Mike taught in the Cedar Rapids School District, worked at area golf courses in course maintenance and as a Golf Pro for the city of Cedar Rapids serving Jones and Twin Pines Golf Courses. In 2006 Mike and Peggy bought The Copy Shop & More in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Mike enjoyed playing and teaching the game of golf, bowling, watching Hawkeye sports and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also supported C.R. Kennedy athletics and fine arts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
