Maude Ward Carrothers, 96, of 2200 1st Ave NE, died Saturday September 6, 2009 in Heritage Nursing & Rehab. Funeral mass: 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthews Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Marie Saunders and husband Phillip of Cedar Rapids, a son, Dale Carrothers and wife Margaret Frances, of Fairfax, a sister, Marguerite Foster of Ft. Meyers, Florida, her grandchildren, Thomas and James Saunders, Michael, Patrick and Kelly Carrothers, great grandchildren, Olivia and Regan Saunders and Sean Patrick Carrothers.

Her parents, husband, Victor and a daughter in law, Mary Ellen Carrothers, and her siblings preceded her in death.

Maude was born August 10, 1913 in Parnell, the daughter of Martin and Ellen Carrol Ward. She married Victor Temple Carrothers on June 26, 1938 in Dubuque. Maude worked for Quaker Oats and then for Wilson’s Food as a meat trimmer for 25 years. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Her loved her family and was a great cook.
