Arlene Tanner Schultz, 91, of 820 Edward Court SE, died Sunday, August 9, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital from complications resulting from a stroke. A funeral service and celebration of her 91 years will be held in First Lutheran Church at 11 AM Tuesday. Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the church after 10 AM on Tuesday.

Arlene married Ralph Schultz on September 27, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1998. His involvement in the El Kahir Shrine lead Arlene to a lifetime commitment of service to the Shrine. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, El Kahir Shrine Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, El Kahir Widows Club, Marion American Legion Post 298 Auxiliary, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, and the Cedar Rapids Elks Club.

Arlene was the daughter of Merl and Violet Tanner, born and raised in Palo, Iowa. She attended the Cedar Rapids Business College and made a career as secretary and bookkeeper at Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company, Mayflower Transfer, and Storage and Office Equipment Company.

Arlene is survived by her sister, Genevieve Stickney, local nephews Tom (Shirley) Stickney, Jim Stickney, Danny Stickney, niece Susan Arlene Stickney, as well as many nieces and nephews on the Stickney and Schultz sides of the family. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother-in-law Harold Stickney.
