Memorial

Don J. Engelbart, 87, of Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab in Belle Plaine formerly of Marion died Saturday Aug. 1, 2009 at the Rehab Center after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Vera, a resident of Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab, four daughters, Karen (Robert) Bradley of Cedar Rapids, Reta (Jerry) Slaymaker of Guernsey, Joyce (Rey) Bray of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Donna (Michael) Stark of Swisher, and a brother, Wayne (Vera) of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Lonnie.

Don was born on Sept. 6 1921 in Princeton, Nebraska, the son of John and Helen Schnake Engelbart. He married Vera F. Mills on March 7, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Don drove truck for several trucking firms for over 40 years most recently for Heartland Express until his retirement. He was a member of the Belle Plaine Congregational Church and proudly served as an army paratrooper during WWII.

A memorial fund has been established in Don’s name.
