Memorial
Maxine A. Gegenheimer, 88, of 967 Bridget Lane SE, died July 27, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her three daughters Jeannine (Gary) Evilsizer of Cedar Rapids, Dianne (Paul) Herring of Columbus Junction and Georgene (David) Lopata of Walker; brothers Eugene and Wayne; sisters Geneva, Marguerite, Ruth, Delores, and Elaine; 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, parents, brother Edwin, sister Dorothy, and great granddaughter Morgan Reves.
Maxine was born April 18, 1921, in West Branch, the daughter of Alfred and Grace (Schneider) Blount. She married George W. Gegenheimer on September 3, 1941 in Kahoka, MO. Maxine was employed in retail sales for Killian’s Department Store from 1955 – 1980, while farming with her husband for several years near Oxford, Troy Mills, and Alburnett. Maxine and George lived in Marion, and later moved to Port Charlotte, FL, before returning to Cedar Rapids. Maxine enjoyed making quilts for her family and playing cards. Above all her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family whom she loved dearly. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family.
Memorial donations in Maxine’s honor may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, or to The Mercy Medical Center Foundation.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr.’s Mary Ann Nelson, Ralph Beckett, Diane Norton, and the staff of Hiawatha Care Center and Mercy Medical Center.
