Memorial

Geraldine Mae Bruss, 66, of Cedar Rapids, IA, died peacefully in her home on Friday, July 17, 2009, as a result of colon cancer. “Then the angel said to me Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added, "These are the true words of God." Revelation 19:9

Geri was born in Jessenland Township, MN, on June 14, 1943, the daughter of Richard and Martha nee Wentzlaff Lueck. She was married in 1964 to Wesley Bruss and graduated from Concordia University of St. Paul, MN, with Honors in 1965. She used her talents to teach in Lutheran schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin for the next six years while her husband completed his studies for the ministry. She lovingly followed and supported her husband in his ministry from Mission, SD, to Hoskins, NE, to Cedar Rapids, IA, where they lived for the last 23 years.

Her faith in Christ Jesus was evident throughout her life, as a wife, mother, and friend. She was extremely musically talented and used this gift to teach, accompany, and serve as a church organist. Music was a central part of her life; she shared this gift with all who knew her - her family, friends, students, and congregation. She was a REAL MOM, a master organizer and planner, as well as a control freak in both her kitchen and out camping.

Preceding her in death are her parents and one brother, Richard, Jr. Geri is survived by her husband, Pastor Wesley Bruss and her four children: Wendy and her two children, Paige and Ethan, of Charlotte, NC; Tammy and husband Tom Schmitt, of Cedar Rapids; Jason and wife Erika, and their three children, Logan, Brandon, and Isabelle, of Arlington, WA; and Brenda and husband Reid Hanson, of El Paso, TX; her sister Arlene and husband Vernon Wietzke, of Le Sueur, MN; her sister Marie and husband Eldon Wietzke, of Valentine, NE; her brother Roger, of Arlington, MN; and many other family and friends.

The visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial, Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24th, 2009. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25th, 2009, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2900 42nd St NE, in Cedar Rapids, with the committal service to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery and a luncheon back at the church. Flower arrangements may be sent to or purchased at Cedar Memorial. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd in loving memory of Geri Bruss. The memorial fund will be split between the World and Home WELS missions (www.wels.net).
