Gary M. Pope, 60, of 1424 7th Ave SW, died Saturday June 27, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Memorial services: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. William B. Harnish. Visitation will be Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4-7 p.m. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelly Hurd and husband Jaydee of Cedar Rapids and Jenny Kitzmiller and husband Eric of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Kitzmiller and Cyrus Hurd.
His parents preceded him in death.
Gary was born November 24, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Menzo and Ida Candler Pope. He married Janet M. Oakley on May 3, 1969 and were married for 36 years. He was a pipe fitter for Modern Piping in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Local Union #125 and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving the country side and drinking with friends.
