Kaye Barton Keister, 74, 2928 Mansfield Ave SE, passed away on June 25, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA. Funeral services: 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Reverend Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Kaye is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laura Roberta (Hamer) Keister, his sons, William Donald and Paul Merle Keister and his daughter, Kristen Kaye and her husband Paul Trovas. Seven grandchildren; Zachary Kaye – the first grandson who was born on his grandfather’s birthday, August 2, Matthew Donald, and Savannah June Keister, Callie Rae, and Shelby Lynn Cook, George Paul Trovas, Cordaro Tance Griffin (Traci) and a great-grandson, Quinton Braxton Griffin. Kaye has one younger brother, Kraig Murray Keister (Pam) of Belle Plaine, MN and on older sister, Beverly Ann Morlok-Finger (Robert) of Kirkwood, MO.
He was preceded in death by an infant baby brother, Garth, his parents, Donald Merle and June Wilma (Brundage) Keister and his beloved first born daughter, Jackie Lynn Keister-Pacheco (Jerry) – who died of breast cancer in 1997.
Kaye was a very good person, well liked and loved by those who knew him in all stages of his life. He was a full service Phillips 66 Dealer with Nordstrom Oil Co for 33 years. In 1987 he and Laura built and ran Kaye’s Car and Truck Service Center until their retirement in 1997.
Kaye graduated from Franklin High School in 1952 and attended Coe College. He married Laura Roberta Hamer at Jordon’s Grove Baptist Church in 1956. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2006. He was a wonderful father and a precious grandfather involved very much in each of their lives. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved the one that he was with at the time the most. Kaye will be greatly missed here on earth by those of us left behind to greave his passing but we know there was much rejoicing when he opened his eyes on the other side.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for memorial of their choice.
