** Roxane M. Marconi,
“ You know that place between awake and sleeping, that place where you are dreaming? That’s where I’ll be loving you and that’s where I’ll be waiting”
Roxane M. Marconi, 49, of 1287 35th St. NE. lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday June 20, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Rev. David O’Connor of All Saints Catholic Church. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday where there will be a vigil service at 4:30 PM.
Survivors include her husband, Brian, her father, John Burke of Cedar Rapids, a brother, John Burke III of Seattle, Washington and three sisters, Dotti Burke of Cedar Rapids, Lori (Paul) Margulies of Perksee, Pennsylvania and Mary (Todd) Zieser of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; Scott and Kitaen Jackson, Sean, Christina and Joey Burke, Sage Zieser, Brittni Lilly and Roxane’s and Brian’s dog, Sammy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth.
Roxane was born on May 3, 1960 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Ruth Wilken Burke. She graduated from All Saints Catholic Grade School and later at Regis High School. She married Brian M. Marconi on May 14, 2005 in Cedar Rapids. Roxane was a planned giving supervisor at Ruffalo Cody for several years.
Roxane’s greatest joy was her friends and family. She was an ace cake decorator and would hold holiday baking sessions for Anna, Raider and Sage. Recently, she was able to enjoy a trip to New York with one of her best friends, LeAnne in which she saw several Broadway Shows. She loved and collected Peter Pan memorabilia and had a beautiful Christmas village that the children looked forward to every year.
She enjoyed the solitude and tranquility of Roger and Patti’s cabin where she spent her last few days. She battled cancer with a positive attitude and was an inspiration to us all. We are all better people for knowing her.
A memorial fund has been established in Roxane's name.
