Gary B. Craven, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died June 6, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Christ Episcopal Church. Rev. Martha Rogers and Rev. Barbara Schlachter will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife Mary; sons Michael and wife Suzan of Brighton, CO, Bryan of Calgary, Canada, and Aaron and wife Dana of Rosemount, MN; grandchildren Erika, John, and Kaden; great grand child Carson; brothers and sisters Kathryn, Jean, Clifford, Ron, Dee, Karen, Connie, and Neil; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, David, Rollie, and Charles.

Gary Burton Craven was born March 26, 1937 in Gentry County, Missouri, the son of Clifford and Neva (Wilkinson) Craven. He served his country honorably in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot. He was united in marriage to Mary Meyer on June 29, 1974 in Richfield, MN. He was employed at various jobs throughout his career, his last job being as a manager at Firestone Tires. He was a member of AM Vets, and Christ Episcopal Church. He enjoyed building and working with computers, and greatly enjoyed flying planes. Most of all, his greatest enjoyment was the time he was able to spend with his family whom he dearly loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
