Warren L. “Bud” Summy, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died May 24, 2009 at his home following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Clinton Jeffers will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Vinton American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy, of Cedar Rapids; his sister Doris (Lee) Laton, his brother Bill(Mary), his step sister Nadine (Bob) Hanneman all of Vinton.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lena in 1926; his father Frank, in 1964, and his stepmother LaVon, in 2002.

Warren was on born December 2, 1924 in Waterloo, Iowa. He was proud to be a U.S. Veteran. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 and enjoyed telling everyone about the USS Nashville and his tour in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion for 64 years and a lifetime member of the VFW.

He married Dorothy L. Ahrendsen on October 22, 1955 in Cedar Rapids.

He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Hawkeyes and watched many of their games. He was also an avid reader of news magazines and a volunteer for the Witwer Center. He was also an organ donor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The American Heart Association, The Alzheimer’s Association, or to a charity of your choice.
