Memorial

LaVonne R. Baird, 84, of Evergreen Estates II died Friday May 22, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a short illness. Services at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bill Warhover will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Monday.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald (Maryann) Schlotfelt of Palo, James (Ardella) Schlotfelt of Cedar Rapids and Richard Schlotfelt of Canyon County, California; two sisters, Dorothea Kulatala of Keokuk and Joan Campbell of Bradenton, Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, one sister, Virginia and four brothers, John, Robert, Roger and Thomas.
LaVonne was born on Aug. 21, 1924 in LaPorte City, the daughter of John and Pearl Gillan Schlotfelt. She married Raymond M. Baird on Aug. 13, 1945 in Cedar Falls. He died in 1992. LaVonne worked at Quaker Oats for five years and later at Collins-Radio where she retired from after 25 years of service. LaVonne enjoyed putting puzzles together and especially spending time with her family and many friends.
