Memorial

Helen Trecek, 88, of 2509 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE died Sunday May 17, 2009 at the Manor Care after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Tyrone Male will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.

Survivors include one brother, Edward (Barbara) Trecek, and a sister, Beatrice Trecek all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by a nephew, Joseph Trecek, a sister-in-law, Ruth Trecek of Dodgeville, Wisconsin and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by eight brothers.

Helen was born on July 3, 1920 at Blue River, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Soukup Trecek. She graduated from Wheaton College and the Cook County School of Nursing. As a nurse, Helen worked at St. Lukes Hospital for several years and then worked in the offices of Dr Day, Dr Bausch and Dr. Showel. She went back to work at St. Lukes after the Doctors retired.
Helen traveled in the United States and went to Europe. She visited relatives in Czechoslovakia- her parent’s homeland. She made many lovely crafts, pictures and wreaths that she gave to her family and friends. She had an intensive love for nature and gardening. Her sister, Beatrice and she supplied the neighborhood with fresh vegetables, fresh mushrooms that they had hunted for, and berries in her back yard. She was a member of the New Covenant Bible Church where she attended bible studies and faithfully read her bible daily. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to; Peoria Rescue Ministries, 310 S. W. Adams, P.O. Box 837, Peoria, Illinois 61652-0837 or to Amenity Hospice in Cedar Rapids.

Helen’s family would like to extend its respect and thanks to the staffs at Manor Care and Amenity Hospice for the excellent care and tireless love shown to her.
