Nathan Williams, 86, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday May 10, 2009 at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown following a long illness. Services: 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Gospel Tabernacle Church by the Rev. Joe Pledge. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 11:00 a.m.

Survivors include his children, Lula (Charles) Cook, Joe Williams, Edward Williams, Roy Williams all of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Emma Williams of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 32 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, in addition to a host of in-laws and close family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Willie Williams, and the mother of his children Nannie Sue Pledge.

Nathan was born June 10, 1922 in Marked Tree Poinsett, Arkansas. He worked construction and farmed. He was an avid sports fan with his favorite being baseball and softball. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
