Memorial

Raymond L. Wright, 84, of Hiawatha, died May, 11, 2009 at Hallmar, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Family will receive friends and relatives at the chapel after 9:00 AM on Thursday. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters: Joanne (Terry) Zuber, Norway, IA and Carol (Jim) Allen of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren: Chris (Paul) Engelby, Fairmont, MN, Patty (Lewis) McDorman, Bowie MD, Sarah (Austin) Temperley and Jon (Emily) Allen, Lakeland, FL, and Mark Allen, Cedar Rapids, six great-grandchildren: Ashley and Emily Engelby, Jacob and Amanda McDorman, Jack and Lydia Temperley, a brother, Donald of Wyoming, IA, and sisters, Dorothy Denison, Lisbon, and Gladys Wright, Wyoming, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bella, a daughter, Betty Wahlstrom, his parents, Willard and Sarah (Morris) Wright, a sister, Mildred Luckstead, and a brother, Louis.

Ray was born September 13, 1924 in Toddville. He married Bella Linkenback on November 19, 1944. Ray was a barber until he started building houses in the area as Wright Construction Co. He and Bella developed Sunset Mobile Home Park in Hiawatha in the early 1970’s and continued to operate it until their retirement.

Ray enjoyed camping along trout streams in northeast Iowa and attending bluegrass festivals. He spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
