Memorial

Annie Smolinski, 88, of the Meth-Wick Community, died at home suddenly and peacefully after spending Mother’s Day with her family. Memorial Mass: 11 AM Wednesday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 4:30 pm at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Tuesday and after 10 AM Wednesday at the church.

Annie is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Sovern of North Liberty; grandchildren, Grant (Lara Sutherlin) Sovern of Madison, Wis, and their children, Atticus and Ruby, Eric (Shannon Horton) Sovern of Decorah and their son, Jack, and Kerith Sovern of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Jenny “Dolly” Hoffman of Greenwood, Wis., and Dolores Drozt of Barrington, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Annie was born on September 13, 1920 in Racine, WI to Michael and Dora Drozt. She married Edward J. Smolinski on April 26, 1942 in Chicago, IL He died in 1996. She was a bookkeeper for Turner Printing Company in Chicago and then worked there for Congressman Daniel Rostenkowski. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

Annie was loved by everyone. She enjoyed quilting and many other crafts. She entertained staff and residents with willing song of all the old standards. She was always positive.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Meth-Wick community for all the compassionate care Annie received.

Memorials may be directed to the Achievement Fund at Metro High School.
