Ronald Phillip Wright, 78, of 1907 Hunters Creek Way, Marion, passed away Sunday April 26, 2009 in his home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Noelridge Christian Church by Pastor Doug Miller. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
Ronald Phillip Wright was born November 2, 1931 at Quincy, Illinois, the son of Phillip and Virginia (Wertz) Wright, oldest of 9 children. A Cedar Rapids resident, he attended school at McKinley, Roosevelt and graduated from Franklin H.S. class of 1949. After High School he worked at Collins Radio and the Rock Island Railroad. He married Ione E. Mac Falls, the love of his life, on December 31, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 as B-29 Bomber Crew and 3 years as jet engine instructor at Chanute Airbase in Illinois. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated in June of 1958 with a degree in BSC Labor Management Major. Ronald worked in the insurance industry as a claim representative and district sales manager. In November 1973 he started Wright-Way Recreational Vehicles and Trailers, a family business in Hiawatha, and retired in 2000. In his spare time Ronald enjoyed fishing trips in Alaska and Canada. He also enjoyed hunting, boating on the Mississippi and their motor home. He was a member of the Marion American Legion and charter member of Noelridge Park Christian Church. Ron was a generous man who worked hard and loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his wife of almost 58 years, family, friends and his good fishing buddy Dan Mc Farland of Fredericksburg, IA.
He is survived by his wife, Ione, his children, Ron Wright Jr. (Pat) of Palmer, Alaska, Sheryl Stillions (Steve) of Marion, Robert Wright (Teresa) of Toddville, Rick Wright of Marion and Richard Alan Wright of Prescott Valley, Arizona, his siblings, Duane Wright (Ann) of Austin, Texas, Mike Wright (Diane) of Ames, Tim Wright (Vickie) of Carol Stream, Illinois, Dan Wright (Lisa) of Goodyear, Arizona, Carol Oliver (Norval) of Coolridge, Arizona, Mary Ann Dimitriadis of Coolridge, Arizona and Kathleen Hansen (Gary) of Arvada, Colorado. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, a brother, Patrick Wright and a granddaughter, Sonya Stillions preceded him in death.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Mercy for all the loving care they gave.
