Memorial

Ellen Sunde, 88, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab died there on Thursday April 23, 2009 after a brief illness. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. A reception to honor Ellen’s life will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Ingrid McHugh, and Ann Sunde and her special friend, Rick Wilson, all of Cedar Rapids, two sisters, Alfhild (Bertram) Arntsen of Oslo, Norway and Ase Jongers of Nesodden, Norway. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Amy Christine McHugh and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, John.

Ellen was born on April 17, 1921 in Oslo, Norway, the daughter of Olaf and Inga Myrne Nord. She married John Sunde on June 30, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1981. Ellen was a homemaker. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway and the International Women’s club. Ellen enjoyed gardening, and especially time spent with her beloved family.

Memorial donations may be given to Mercy Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice in Ellen’s name.
