Sarah Ann Davis of Marion, Iowa and formerly of San Francisco, CA, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at Bickford Cottage, where she had lived for the past 4 years. Sarah was born October 13, 1923 at Mount Vernon, New York to Jerald and Arda Purdy Davis.

Sarah graduated from Independence High School in 1941. She attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, until she enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, and became an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. Sarah wrote news stories for the Naval Flight Exhibition Team in Jacksonville, Fl.

Sarah attended Stanford U. and USC, graduating in 1952 in Occupational Therapy and certified in Physical Therapy in 1956. In 1963, Sarah received a Master of Arts Degree in Photography from San Francisco State College. She joined the Peace Corp in 1971, serving in Swaziland. Sarah later worked for the Visiting Nurses Association in S.F.

In 1997, Sarah was ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church and served at All Saints Church on Waller Street in San Francisco.
Sarah moved to Iowa City in 2004 and to Bickford Cottage in Marion, IA, in 2005.

Surviving is her sister, Virginia Hoff of Andrew, IA, Jerry and Sue Davis of Cedar Rapids, 20 nieces and nephews and her extended family at Bickford Cottage in Marion. Arrangements are pending.
