Mary Eleanor Rumann, a resident of MethWick passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, April 13. She was 88 years old.

Mary was born April 20, 1920 in her family’s farmhouse in Grand Mound, Iowa. She was the eldest daughter of Gertrude (Carlin) and Elmer Bousselot in a family of nine children.

Mary graduated from Mount St. Claire Academy for Girls in Clinton, Iowa in 1938 and attended Maquoketa Junior College where she received her teaching certificate. Mary taught in a one-room school house near rural DeWitt, Iowa until she joined the Cadet Corps to become a nurse and serve during WWII. After the war, Mary worked as an office nurse for Dr. Leander Schaeffer in DeWitt.

Mary married James Rumann on September 2, 1946. The two made their home on a farm near rural DeWitt and upon retirement, moved to Bellevue, Iowa. When James died in 2006, Mary moved to Cedar Rapids to be near her daughter, Liz.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Mary White of Gilbert, Arizona, Trudy (John) Heil of Scottsdale, Arizona and Liz (Mark) Mathis of Cedar Rapids, a brother Jack (Pat) Bousselot of Lincoln, Nebraska, Madonna (Merlin) Portz of Dubuque and Theresa (Dorrance) Kedley of DeWitt. Mary is survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a loving wife and mother, avid church volunteer, beautiful singer and expert cook and gardener.

Services for Mary will be Friday, April 17 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will begin at 9 AM followed by a mass at 10:30AM. A graveside service will be held at 3:30PM at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bellevue.

Memorials can be made to MethWick and Hospice House of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
