Memorial
Jon “Mike” Taylor took his final ride on angels wings Monday March 30th, 2009. Gone now but not forgotten, Forever in our dreams. There are no more pains, there are no more worries. You will be at every party. Take part of every race and if angels ride on Harleys, you will definitely set the pace. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Friday.
Mike is survived by his wife Alice (Ali) Oltman-Taylor. His son B. J. (Jennifer) Taylor, Step-son Troy (Jennifer) Oltman, Step-daughters Amy (Dan) Blomquist and Wendy (Trent) Marner. Grandchildren Anna, Raider and Pepper Taylor; Keeton Oltman; Grace Blomquist; Wreece, Elijah, Thad and Angel Marner. His brother Dennis (Kathy) Taylor and nephew Cory and Colleen Taylor. Also nieces Tina Nemecek, Angelica Schultz, and Nephews Tory Nemecek, Trent Schultz, and Drew Schultz. He is also survived by several aunts and cousins. Also a special person in his life, Betsy Rose. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy Taylor, his mother and step-father Alberta and Quentin Post, his father Dell Taylor, his grandparents Ben and Elsie Neal, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike Taylor was born on November 6th, 1944 to Alberta and Dell Taylor. He has been a lifelong Cedar Rapids resident. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962. On June 16th, 1964 he married his high school sweetheart Judy Manley. He served with the United States Army in Vietnam. On his return he worked for Duchess Dry Cleaners and New Process retiring in 1991. Judy Taylor passed away October 11, 1997. On August 1, 2000 he met and later married Ali Oltman.
Mike was a fun loving guy who enjoyed his family and his friends tremendously. In the past he was a Boy Scout leader and RAGBRAI enthusiast. He loved riding his Harley, old farts breakfast on Wednesday mornings with Gary, George and Dale, and hosting 4th of July parties every year. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and loved Formula One racing, UFC fights, and loud music. He liked to travel and explore new things. He was recently granted Reiki 1 and 2 practitioners.
Mike will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The world is definitely a sadder place without his presence.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
