Burt was a good friend, neighbor on Abel Island, and a great host to everyone. His happy-go-lucky attitude, despite any problems he had, is a good life lesson for everyone. We will miss Burt very much.

I learned to fish on Moens' dock and I learned to dance in Moens' home. Burt was a fixture in my childhood, and he and Carolyn were one of the joys of my adulthood. Abel Island and the Leute/Mayne/Wilson family reunions will never be the same without Burt. God bless!

Burt was standing in our boat shouting out to me "Now we will slow down...now kick it off, we'll speed up to make it easier...THAT'S IT! Not only did Burt help me learn to slalom, he taught me to (let me) drive his boat, had me turning circles on his "Ham's" saucer, and, bottom line, believed in me. He gave me so much confidence that my family now enjoys our own boat, and just last summer my son learned to slalom with me shouting the same exact words Burt used many years earlier. I am so thankful to Burt and Carolyn for the wonderful vacations we spent with them in Guttenberg. Burt had such a warm heart and a good soul. He just made people feel good about themselves and made you want to enjoy life! We even named one of our dogs after Burt! Thanks Burt. You were an inspiration!

I remember when I was a kid going to Guttenberg. Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Burt were always happy to see us. Burt has this infectious personality that everyone adored. He will be greatly missed.

Uncle Burt was one of the most kind and hospitable people I have had the honor of meeting during my life. I feel blessed having known him and having shared fun times with him. He will lovingly remembered.

Oh the memories just keep flooding into the corners of my mind. All those wonderful years on Abe's Island would not have been the same without the presence of Burt. Burt loved to share his resources with others and all of us giddy girls were the lucky recipients. Burt taught all of us to ski. I honestly don't know where we found the patience, but he did. Day after day, he would coach us. They were days to be remembered thanks to you Burt! The Heavens are truly a much better place because now they have one of the brightest stars - one named Burt! We love you Burt and I for one will never forget you - "wait a minute" salutes you!

It's sad. Someone I enjoyed talking with so very much, yet spoke with so very little, is now forever quiet. I have commented to friends how he had this voice that you just loved listening to. So sincere & warm. Uncle Burt & Aunt Carolyn played a special roll in my childhood. My family would spend our summer weekends in Guttenburg on the Mississippi. My brothers and cousin Gary would ski almost all weekend. Christmas at Grandma Moen's was always a highlight of my holidays. The Irishes & Moens always playing gift gags on each other. I remember all of that so fondly. If wishes could come true, one of mine would be to return to Guttenburg, the river, Doug's, the dam, oh my...the 4th of July! Uncle Burt...always happy, always sweet. Uncle Burt helped to make so many things so very much fun...like being an important part of my childhood. I hope God sends more people down that are just like my Uncle Burt. He was special.

Dear "Cousin Carolyn" Charlene Hansen sent us the nogtice of Burton's Passing. We know he's had "problems" for quite a while. We pray the Lord will be with his spirit. Also we ask our Savior to be with you in your time of grief. We have started home from South Texas, are in Big Bend, on our way to Kansas and Wyoming ()to see kids) before heading to Sioux Falls. Will send a memorial to First Congregational Church after we get home.

I will say it again like everyone else on here, Burt was a great guy & I feel blessed to have known him. I knew him as Uncle Burt, but really he was my Great Uncle Burt, & he was just that. As my brother, Shane, has already said, I remember going to the river when I was a kid & having so much fun at their place and always feeling so welcome by him & Aunt Carolyn. ~Rest In Peace Uncle Burt~
