** Merle M. Knapp, 92, of 1141 24th St. in Marion died there Sunday March 22, 2009 after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Paul) Herboldsheimer of Lisbon and Nancy (Norman) Lindley of Olin; and his twin brother, Earl (Opal) of Walker. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Irene Becicka of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, a brother, Louis and an infant grandson.

Merle was born on Nov. 14, 1916 in rural Linn County, the son of Ray and Elizabeth Kula Knapp. He married Florence Odeen on June 1, 1938 in Anamosa. She died in 1967. He later married Frances Locke on Feb. 17, 1968 in Coggon. She died in 1992. Merle was a life long farmer in Linn County. He enjoyed dancing at the local senior centers in Central City, Marion and Hiawatha. He also enjoyed trail back riding with family and friends.

Memorial donation may be given to St. Lukes Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
